And the most important abbreviations they like to use are V/MC/D better know as Visa, MasterCard and Discovery.  Just thought I’d throw a little humor in there for you.  Please remember to keep it light, with a strong sense of humor, because this process can take an emotional toll on a couple and especially your partner who is being bombarded with hormones.  So stay strong, understanding and most importantly stay together.

TYPES OF INVITRO FERTILIZATION PROCEDURES

without comments

TYPES OF PROCEDURES

For the purpose of this article, I’m going to focus on two types of procedures, IUI or Intrauterine Insemination and IVI or Intravaginal Insemination. These procedures are types of artificial insemination.

Again, because we are a lesbian couple and we were trying to increase the success of fertilization we chose to use the IUI procedure.

What is IUI?

Intrauterine Insemination or IUI is when the sperm sample is injected, by a doctor, directly above the vagina and the cervix, directly into the uterine cavity using a sterile, flexible catheter.  This means those little sperm don’t have that far to swim in order to get to an egg and fertilize it.  The success rate among each procedure varies, but when combined with Fertility Medications like Clomid or Femera, the success rates increase dramatically.

With this procedure it’s important that you have a good motile sperm sample.  You should have between 12-18 million of those little critters alive and kicking.  So it’s important when your picking your sperm sample from a Fertility clinic, you pick a sample from a donor who has had “successful” pregnancies.

The IUI procedures and safe and has very low discomfort.  It’s much like having your yearly pelvic exam if done correctly. The entire procedure ony takes a few minutes.  After the procedure is complete, the doctor will ask that you stay in a laying down position for an additional 10 minutes, but after that you can resume normal activities.  Because of the placement of the sperm, above the vagina and the cervix and directly into the uterine cavity, leakage is not an issue.

A less expensive procedure is IVI.  What is IVI?

Intravaginal Insemination of IVI is when the sperm sample is placed into the vaginal cavity using a sterile catheter as well. This procedure, which can be performed at home is also known as the “Turkey Baster” method.  One of the disadvantages of this procedure is that you are making the sperm swim a lot farther than they would have to if you chose to use IUI instead.  Knowing that sperm only live 24-48 hours after insemination, you wouldn’t want them using half their life span just trying to swim to the egg and fertilize.  I’d imagine they’d be pretty tired and less likely to have success.  The advantage of this procedure is cost.

Solving Childlessness With IUI Pregnancy

without comments

The prospect of having kids is something that couples will always be fond of.These kids are not considered as mere fruits of a couple’s love for each other; they also benefit a lot from this love.Besides these signs though, for many couples starting a family is the next step in your relationship. However, some may have problems in having children. These can be because of two main reasons; one is infertility and the other is sexual dysfunctions due to psychological problems. Of course, the usual first recourse is to seek the help of a medical practitioner.

Fortunately, thanks to modern science, there are now a number of methods for couples who have infertility concerns to choose from as options. Many of these fall under the category called artificial insemination.Of all these insemination methods that are available, the one that’s most commonly used and most effective is what is known as the intrauterine insemination or IUI.Being a tested safe and sure way to treat infertility, IUI pregnancy has made a lot of couples happy with kids, the top option of those who can’t bear children.

IUI is prescribed to those couples who have been working to have children for a year and more. Before the female starts with the treatment, the couple must first subject themselves to examinations. This is done to find out who has the infertility issue. In these tests that they both go through, the male is tested if his sperm goes to function normally. This also involves finding out the sperm count, mobility as well as sperm morphology. On the other hand, the female is also tested to ensure that she has a normal ovulation cycle, open fallopian tubes, and a normal uterine cavity.

The process of having an IUI pregnancy is actually simple and quick. What can take time are the examinations and the compliance of other requirements prior to it.It is basically just the injection of sperm into the uterus. By directly injecting the sperm there, the chances of not being able to conceive with the female egg is greatly minimized. This means may be or may not be complemented by using fertility drugs.Taking these medicines would raise the chance of your getting pregnant.Nevertheless, the heightened fertility can only result to multiple pregnancies. It is suggested that a couple should first consult a doctor on the safety of taking in fertility drugs prior to an IUI treatment.
